Electric Vehicles (EV)

EVs are a smart low-carbon option for trips that are too far to walk or cycle, more complex, or when public transport isn’t practical. They’re also cheaper to run than petrol or diesel vehicles, particularly when charged at home.

Rewiring Aotearoa estimates that charging an EV from the grid can cost the equivalent of around $0.60 per litre of petrol, dropping to around $0.30 per litre with rooftop solar. And if you can carpool in an EV, even better – you’re sharing the energy use, emissions and running costs across more people.

E-motorbikes

E-motorbikes can be even more energy-efficient, while taking up less road and parking space. Smaller models classified as mopeds can be ridden on a standard Class 1 car licence, while more powerful models require a motorcycle licence.
